The Samsung Chromebook 2 11.6-Inch is an improvement over the first generation of Chromebooks. It is small, thin, and light-weight. It is an excellent machine for your mobile lifestyle. Chromebooks are no longer an oddity, and these machines are taking on “real” laptops. This machine comes in your choice of colors – Jet Black or Classic White.

The operating system of a Chromebook is Google Chrome. The computer is for connecting to the internet and using cloud-based services. Since you don’t have to wait for extensive software to use, start up is nearly immediate. It is great for shopping on Amazon, watching movies on Netflix, and doing other internet browsing. Applications such as office programs, are run from the internet instead of from the local machine. The obvious choice if you have a Chromebook is to use Google Docs, but you are not tied to that. Microsoft now provides cloud-based MSOffice and Apple has iWork apps. The machine itself has minimal storage capacity, because your data is stored in the Google Cloud. Another major advantage of a Chromebook is that you do not have to update the software like you have to do in a traditional laptop. Updates are automatic and transparent.

The screen is a 11.6” HD LED backlit display with 1366 x 768 resolution. The processor is the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5420 (also called Exynos 5 Octa), a power-efficient system on a chip (SoC) with 8 cores. The chip was released in September 2013. Samsung uses a concept called big.LITTLE to combine power with reduced energy consumption to extend the battery life. The system uses four powerful Cortex-A15 cores when computing power is needed, and switches to the energy efficient Cortex-A7 cores when it is not. In addition, in this latest generation of processor, all eight cores can be used simultaneously. The clock speed is 1.9 GHz.

The laptop comes with 4GB DDR3L RAM, which is twice as much as is traditionally found in Chromebooks. The memory is soldered in place and cannot be upgraded.

There is a 16 GB solid state drive, which is useful for storing work in progress. With the purchase of this machine you get 100 GB of cloud storage on Google Drive for two years for free. When your files are stored in the cloud, you can access them from anywhere you have an internt connection. For connecting devices, there are two USB ports, one of which is USB 3.0 which transfers data ten times faster than USB 2.0. The Chromebook has neither a DVD drive nor a Blu-ray player since you can download movies and software directly from the internet. There is 802.11ac wireless support (which is also backwards compatible with 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless) The battery life is 8 hours. The machine is just 0.66” thick, and weighs 2.65 lbs.

The Samsung Chromebook 2 11.6-Inch is lightweight and versatile. If most of what you use a computer for is internet-based, that you will find this an economical and a fast option for getting online and getting things done.
